Venice Again

On the way, I slept on the plane.
Arriving on time and things looked the same.
I sat jetlag slaughtered at the Butchers Daughter,
with a feeling like home that I can’t fully explain.
And I skated down Kinney at six in the morning.
Espresso at Groundwork and pastures as well.
Then picked up a rental from the Loews hotel.
And then left commercial as I drove in circles.
And I found time to hang around with sand between my teeth.
A thousand miles, with nowhere ahead and beneath.
On the way, the planning was LAX.
There were mountains and forest and deserts designed to distract.
With just introspection and with no direction
Wound up in a diner, mulling over just what it is I miss,
And I gotta figure out, how to live like this.
Back sipping water at the Butchers Daughter,
right back home in Venice again.
