Hindsight 03:31
HINDSIGHT when I woke up again with blood dried on my face. Felt dizzy coming round with anaesthetic taste. Almost felt sorry as I lay there feeling lost. Face like I’d been kicked by a fucking angry horse. Hear whooshing sounds and count to ten. Wondered if I’d ever hear again. Some things can go without warning. Some say that hindsight is what’s been said before. Its been said before. A good wine where some is decanted, wasted or taken from granted. Shouldn’t need to say all that’s been said before. Remembered stereo and gorgeous special sound. Heard mono nurses pushing mono trolley round. Hope pinned up to a place I’d need a step to view. “Wait there,” I said to it, “I’m coming back for you.”

Archid 04:43
3.
REMEMBER THIS you said what you wanted to say. This isn’t a race. I thought that you had it controlled. You put it so delicately. A smack in the face. It wasn’t your feeling you sold. A tear on your cheek so you don’t have to speak any more. I’m shutting you down so next time you’re around reminisce. Reminisce and remember this.
4.
Invaders 06:13
INVADERS don’t know how long they’d been there. Sat silent undercover, hiding until discovered. Invaders trying to colonise somewhere they don’t belong, taking all but the strong. Invaders, silence you parasitic ones. Invaders dying quietly.

We Fly 03:31

Mtlsqe 03:49

No Words 02:51
NO WORDS another shit gig to add to the list, for the first few songs I just thought you were pissed, messing up for reasons that I didn’t know though, felt like I was doing the whole show solo. Like some dark place was dangling a carrot, only thought I had a second before you went all Syd Barrett on me. And afterwards, the night was strangely repetitious Of the year before, before it all become so vicious. We ended up in the same club, you ended up on the same floor, still wearing the same jacket you said that Ian Brown once wore. Misunderstanding and meandering your mind, erratic moments where the only thing you want you can’t find. Beneath confusion and what’s been spoken too late, a metaphysical encounter without meaning or shape, between annoyed and content between a pout and a kiss, but underlying everything there are no words for this. Same venue same faces and the sound of two. Same puppy eyed girl waiting round for you. Relationship destroyer, I wonder who the next is, discussed with me and Gioia and the queen of all your exes. Hanging in absurdity and tripping up adversity, nursing can never endeavour, you’ll take the time to see what’s going on in side your head is like a mental fever. I know a pill can fix it but the bottle isn’t helping either. Thinking lateral you battle with emotion unknown, selective memory again with all the stages you’ve outgrown. Excuses that wouldn’t fool a kid, don’t wanna be held accountable for anything you said or did. Don’t want to count the days but you sit there wasting time and I don’t wanna be the one whose always keeping you in line, collect your pleasantly apparently a hit or a miss but when its all said and done there are no words for this. Lunatic or psycho which one of them are you. Fucking massacre like a batman premiere, always acting tough thinking that there are ten of you, have to make a scene so we’ll all remember. You play poker like you play like play hard, all in without looking at your cards. Go speaking ambiguity and see the trouble it’ll bring, coz everybody’s always misinterpreting the simplest thing. Have you got ten minutes to sit down and listen, put this on and things might change. It’s nice this crisis should I think twice and never say an adversary should be kept at close range. Was I clear, do you fear that wasn’t what I meant? It can be good to be misunderstood its heaven sent. Between a wave and a fist between a shush and a kiss but as I said there are no words for this

The Sickness 06:34
SICKNESS you can’t fight the sickness. Research show, two for one get ahead now and open your eyes. Ten per cent shinier you should upgrade. Get rewards APR interest free now and open your eyes. Every ad seems to say “but this and get laid”. Product weak sales peak now and open your eyes. Wear an ad, smoke and ad never get paid. Demograph-fickle laugh it’s a cash cow and open your eyes. Every ad seems to say “Buy this and get laid!”
9.
Home 03:15
HOME the colour of sleep. Given freely to keep. You wait, debate, by all accounts your fat can change. The moment you think that you’re lost you’re home. Time it can wait another day, mean what you say, you fight alone (consistency) but in the end you’re home. Burns could heal you, sounds strange. Whole perceptions can change. And everyone who’s anyone, knows what to do and everyone who’s anyone knows.

Irving's fifth solo album combines delicate and angry guitar playing, rapping, heartfelt lyrics and quirky time signatures to create nine passionately crafted pieces of music.

REVIEWS:

Introducing "Adventures in Mono" by Adam Irving
Reviewed by Glenn Ryan for Subtle Sound 2014

Like the blurb on the back of a DVD case, the sleeve notes of Irving's latest CD states that all the songs on it were recorded in a year in which the musician went deaf, lost his voice, underwent chemotherapy and presumably lived to tell the tale, albeit in mono. So it isn't surprising that the music itself sounds like a battle is being fought. Its a mix of stories and styles underneath under some very angry guitar playing. Guitar playing which sounds like it's fighting for its life. Many of the tracks run into each other seamlessly, giving the set of songs the feeling of a 'suite' of moments rather than a bunch of different pieces. There's a surprise rap track with 'No Words'. while 'Sickness', 'Hindsight', 'Invaders' & 'Remember This?' are conventional rock songs, each with blistering guitar work and occasional surprise moments. The three instrumentals; 'Archid', 'We Fly' & 'Mtlsque' emerge from their own independent musical universes. The music itself has a charm; Irving's style and passion on the tracks is both unique and strangely familiar to the ear. The sentimental final track, 'Home' is an appropriate acoustic closer tying the album together. Lyrically you are taken to the artists darkest moments but somehow it never gets too bleak or depressing. Irving's knack of incorporating a variety of ingredients to produce something unique is clever, sometimes too clever for its own good, but ultimately, the album shines musically and the artists personality manages to tear through the indulgent guitar work and organized chaos to make a living breathing object which the discerning fan will no doubt dwell upon and discover something new with each listen.
